For the Rain

Song, roll on over long dry valleys.
Follow that cool wind’s trail
up the winding canyon.
Shake the last leaf down
to the forest floor.

Pour down, song, like rain falling
dark bound tight into fish guts,
sperm heart’s lifeblood,
night falling down these drops
bursting out like seed.

Follow hard, long drawn heart song.
Carry dark blood back whole
to the hungry father.
Bury all death down deep
in the earth’s dark core.

Song, fall softly
on rippling creekshine,
silent pool beneath you,
each lingering note
passing all too quickly.

Rings on water shine
down like stone.
